Celebrity-Backed Spirits Surge in Beverly Hills’ Evolving Drinks Landscape

Celebrity-backed tequila and mezcal brands emerging in Beverly Hills' growing premium spirits market

A New Era in Star-Driven Beverage Innovation

In Beverly Hills, the intersection of celebrity culture and premium spirits is becoming increasingly vibrant. A growing number of public figures and local tastemakers are stepping into the beverage world, introducing tequila, mezcal, and wine labels that reflect both personal heritage and evolving consumer tastes. The momentum is fueled in part by the rapid rise of agave-based spirits, which industry experts say are now competing closely with vodka for the top spot in U.S. sales.

Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana: A Spirit Rooted in Heritage

Among the most influential contributors to the movement is actor and Beverly Park resident Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whose Teremana tequila brand has expanded into a full lifestyle platform. Inspired by his Polynesian background, Johnson speaks often about the cultural value of “mana” — the positive energy and intention carried into every interaction.

As part of his brand’s community-focused mission, Johnson launched a series of culinary gatherings titled “Share The Mana, Share The Table,” designed to bring more than 100 guests together for shared food, conversation, and uplifting connection. The events emphasize unity and the belief that optimism can be “contagious” when experienced collectively.

Johnson’s commitment to the project extends far beyond lending his name. During the development of Teremana in 2020, he personally participated in tasting over 100 distillations before landing on the final expressions. Today, the line includes Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo, all priced under $40 and available at Beverly Hills favorites including Saks Fifth Avenue, Spago, The Hideaway, Mastro’s, and Craig’s.

Benicio del Toro and the Elevated World of Perro Verde Mezcal

Academy Award–winning actor Benicio del Toro has also left a meaningful imprint on the premium-agave category through Perro Verde Mezcal, a high-end label crafted by a fifth-generation family of mezcaleros in Oaxaca. Built upon more than 120 years of tradition, Perro Verde honors artisanal production while embracing modern design cues.

Co-founded by Juan Santiago Rodriguez and Mariana Carvajal — a Colombian-born, Los Angeles–based pair redefining luxury within the spirits space — together with mezcal producer Don Porfirio Chagoya, the brand showcases three refined expressions: Espadín, Blend, and Tobasiche.

Each bottle is housed in a distinctive green glass vessel with a wooden stopper, elevating the mezcal’s presence on any home bar cart and underscoring its blend of heritage and contemporary sophistication.

A Celebrity Spirits Wave With Staying Power

As Beverly Hills continues to anchor global trends in luxury lifestyle, the rise of celebrity-backed tequila and mezcal brands reflects a broader cultural shift: today’s consumers want authenticity, craft, and personal storytelling from the spirits they choose. With names like Johnson and del Toro investing in meaningful collaborations and honoring traditional methods, this new chapter in the market is evolving with both star power and substance.
