Los Angeles Chargers Sign Former UFL Tackle Ryan Nelson

The Los Angeles Chargers have officially added offensive line depth by signing Ryan Nelson, a standout tackle from the UFL’s Michigan Panthers, the team announced today.

Nelson brings pro-level experience to the Bolts after three seasons in the United Football League (2023–2025), where he appeared in 28 games, including 22 starts. Most recently, he earned All-UFL honors for his 2025 performance and played a pivotal role in helping the Panthers reach the 2024 UFL Championship Game.

College Roots and Hometown Ties

A native of Buena Park, California, Nelson returns to his home state after a collegiate career at the University of Virginia, where he played from 2018–2021 following a redshirt year in 2017. He was a durable and versatile presence on the Cavaliers’ line, starting 49 career games at both tackle and guard.

The Chargers announced Nelson will wear No. 74 for the upcoming NFL season.

Depth and Versatility for the Bolts

Nelson’s addition gives Los Angeles additional flexibility and experience up front as they head into training camp. With his ability to play multiple positions on the offensive line and his recent success at the pro level, Nelson will compete for a key depth role — or possibly more — in the 2025 campaign.

As the Chargers continue to build their roster, Nelson’s combination of size, experience, and regional ties makes him a compelling addition to watch this season.
