When Did Diapers Get So Fancy?
Written by Ethan M. Stone
Baby gear is getting a makeover, with designer strollers, minimalist nurseries, and celebrity-backed baby brands popping up everywhere. Disposable diapers are no exception. Jessica Alba promoted The Honest Company’s colorful prints as part of the modern mom aesthetic, while Coterie went in a minimalist direction, building a loyal following around unusually soft diapers endorsed by model moms like Ashley Graham and Karlie Kloss.
It might sound excessive to call a diaper a “luxury” product, but a new brand on the market actually brings standout features and premium upgrades that competitors don’t offer. Bc Babycare’s Cloud Skin launched earlier this year, introducing a major update to the decades-old disposable diaper formula.
The core construction marks the biggest underlying breakthrough. To this day, even premium diaper brands combine a superabsorbent polymer (SAP) with wood pulp to absorb liquid. Coterie, for example, uses a mix of both, giving its Size 4 diaper a rated capacity of at least 16 ounces of fluid. Cloud Skin takes a different approach by eliminating wood pulp altogether, relying exclusively on a high-performing SAP core. The results speak for themselves: Cloud Skin achieves an absorption capacity of 20 ounces in that same Size 4 diaper, alongside a claimed 12 hours of dependable overnight dryness.
That material shift makes Cloud Skin feel immediately thinner, lighter, and more flexible. The topsheet—the layer directly touching the skin—uses ultra-fine 0.6D fibers finer than strands of natural silk. The result feels more like a soft, durable textile than the bulky, pillow-like texture parents traditionally expect from disposables.
While Bc Babycare is still relatively new to American shoppers, the brand already boasts a sizable presence across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It also comes with celebrity credibility: Maye Musk previously served as a Bc Babycare brand ambassador, appearing in a campaign centered on modern parenting solutions.
As the premium diaper aisle grows more crowded, parents ultimately win. Increased competition forces brands to innovate, meaning even everyday essentials are getting a major rethink. With Cloud Skin, Bc Babycare has found a clear way to stand out: make it softer, make it thinner, and rethink the core from the inside out.
