In a city defined by reinvention and ambition, a curated gathering of authors and thought leaders came together in Santa Monica for an evening centered on one core belief: ideas have the power to change everything.

The event brought together a dynamic lineup of voices across entrepreneurship, personal development, and leadership, including Bruce Cardenas, Carlos Vasquez, Brandon Hintz, Owen Hanson and moderator, Shirin Hejazi. The night unfolded as both a conversation and an inspiring blend of perspectives, drawing a community of creatives, founders, and emerging leaders into a shared space of reflection and motivation

We had the opportunity to speak with executive and brand builder Bruce Cardenas, who hosted the event at the Legendary Foods Headquarters. Cardenas recently released his book, “Lead With Value,” which reached #1 on Amazon’s new releases across multiple Business lists within its first week.

Bruce's path started in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he discovered discipline, resilience, and the power of showing up every day. That foundation carried him through a career in law enforcement with the LAPD, into executive security for high-profile clients, and eventually into the business world — where he helped build Quest Nutrition from the ground up into a billion-dollar brand. Today, Bruce leads at Legendary Foods and co-founded BioShift Research Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to cancer and heart disease prevention.

“What inspired me to write this book was 12-year-old Bruce. I wrote this book for young kids like myself who dream of going bigger, and maybe going outside of their small towns to do big things,” Cardenas shared.

Cardenas’ work explores leadership not as a rigid framework, but as a deeply personal practice rooted in purpose, authenticity, and service. Through a blend of storytelling and actionable insight, his philosophy emphasizes discovering one’s “why,” building meaningful relationships, servant leadership, and leading with clarity in an increasingly complex world.

Bruce shared, “I learned work ethic at an early age from my father. Work ethic is so important for leaders. It’s helped me to achieve everything I’ve had in life.”

Rather than positioning leadership as a destination, Cardenas frames it as an evolving identity, one that requires self-awareness, lasting commitment, and the courage to grow. That perspective resonated throughout the panel, as speakers expanded on themes of personal responsibility, creative expression, and the power of aligned action.

“One thing that has always helped me move through challenges and blocks is the power of your mind. I’ve always had a positive mindset. I wake up with the same mindset. I’m grateful to be alive and that foundation has helped me move past adversity and hard moments,” said Cardenas.

The format of the evening felt intentional. Less a formal panel and more a living conversation, the dialogue moved fluidly between individual journeys and universal truths. Speakers reflected on the intersections of business and purpose, highlighting how success today is increasingly defined not just by achievement, but by alignment and impact.

For attendees, the experience was as much about content as it was about connection. Conversations continued well beyond the stage, reinforcing the event’s underlying ethos: that ideas are not meant to live in isolation, but to be shared, challenged, and expanded within community.

In many ways, the night mirrored the larger cultural shift happening across Los Angeles and beyond. As audiences seek deeper meaning in both their work and their lives, gatherings like this signal a move toward more intentional, purpose-driven leadership. Given their mission-based vision as a health food company, The Legendary Foods headquarters was the perfect backdrop for such an inspiring night.

And if there was one takeaway that lingered long after the evening concluded, it was this: the most powerful ideas are the ones we choose to live.
